This past Monday the whole family took a drive to Schaumburg to visit LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago. This was our first time at LEGOLAND Discovery Center, except for last year when we just hit the gift shop. So we were all very excited to go check it out!
After checking out some of the LEGO designs, like Sponge Bob & Batman, we headed to the ticket counter. There we learned that “Brick or Treat” was going on and received a bag with a few Lego pieces and design to build a black cat. We then had to visit other attractions to receive additional pieces.
After checking in at the front desk we quickly headed right in!

The first room we entered was MINILAND CHICAGO were the whole city of Chicago made with LEGOs. They even had the city decorated for Halloween with ghosts and cob webs around the city.

We then went through the LEGO Jungle Expedition. Not sure why but Jonathan got a little nervous in there. I really wanted to get a picture of him with the monkey but he didn’t want to get too close. Guess the alligators were that real looking.

From there we went to LEGO Star Wars MINILAND. Although Darth Vader sure was not “MINI”. Next I think was all of our favorite part of the day- Kingdom Quest Laser Ride. The best part was seeing the picture that was taken when we go off the ride. I was in the back so was not able to see how much fun Jim was having shooting the bad guys. I regret not going back to purchase the photo.
We then headed upstairs where the kids made a scare crow in the LEGO Master Builder Academy. The guide there was tons of fun. Lots of “corney” jokes

Another favorite for us was the LEGO Studios 4D Cinema. If you have never been to a 4D Cinema you have to. It is so much fun, especially watching the kids. Jonathan did get scared at one point when the “rock monster” got too close. Emma had to reach over and lift up his glasses to show him that it really wasn’t going to get him. Another really cool thing was the timing of everything seemed to workout perfectly. We never had to wait more then 3 minutes for the next thing to start.
We also did the LEGO Factory Tour, were the kids got to see how LEGO’s are made. They even got to take home a Halloween LEGO Duplo. We also spent a little time in the Duplo Village and running around the LEGO City Construction Site.
We ended the day in the LEGOLAND Discover Center Shop where both kids had $10 from Grandma & Grandpa to spend. Emma actually did well keeping in budget with a LEGO Friends set but of coarse Jonathan went a little over when he tried sneaking in a Batman key change to the order. He also, after much consideration, got the LEGO Duplo Planes set.

By the time we got into the car we were all pretty tired. I don’t think Jonathan even made it onto the highway before falling asleep. But we all had a really great time and would love to return.
You would of thought that the kids would be “LEGOed out” by the time we got home. Oh No!

They couldn’t wait to get home and get their new LEGOs open! Jonathan has even had to sleep with his new Plane and Truck the last couple nights.
It really was a great day for all of us. It isn’t often that Jim is able to join us on a family outing so it made the day even better that we all enjoyed ourselves. I also would like to mention that we visited on a holiday so expected it to be busy. Even with the crowds it never seemed too bad. We were able to move through attractions quickly (but never felt rushed). The employees were all great and super friendly and helpful. They were also pretty great at keeping everything cleaned up and moving along. I really can not find a thing to improve on.
So obviously I would suggest that if you are in the area to plan a visit to LEGOLAND Discovery Center Chicago. You will not be disappointed! To make things even better- My readers can get a FREE Child Admission with Full Paid $20 Adult Admission!
